
Suresh hid his medication in an old vitamin bottle for two years, terrified of what his family would think if they ever found the real one. In his community, mental illness was still spoken of only in whispers, if at all — something shameful, something to hide the way you'd hide a family scandal.
He'd been diagnosed with anxiety and depression after a breakdown at work that he'd blamed, publicly, on "just stress." Privately, medication and therapy had genuinely helped him function again. But the fear of being labeled "weak" or "crazy" kept him living a kind of double life — well in public, barely holding on in private.
